Certified Canine Rehabilitation Veterinarian - 125 Hrs RACE Approved

The Certified Canine Rehabilitation Veterinarian Program (CCRV) is a 125-hour RACE Approved program that trains and certifies licensed veterinarians and vet school students in veterinary rehabilitation for canines. Students will engage with program material through both lectures and labs. The Certified Canine Rehabilitation Veterinarian (CCRV) program is divided into four sessions, two online and two hybrid. The online sessions are available for on-demand streaming for about a three-month period respectively.  The on-site portions are held at the Integrative Veterinary Medical Institute (IVMI) campus in Reddick FL.  The program spans over a seven-month period.

Program Objectives

  • Perform rehabilitation, neurological and orthopedic examinations.
  • Accurately analyze and quantify gait and posture abnormalities.
  • Select and apply rehabilitative agents and modalities to treat patients, including laser, thermotherapy, cryotherapy, therapeutic ultrasounds, Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF), Electrotherapy (TENS and NMES).
  • Utilize manual therapy techniques, land exercise and treadmill, and hydrotherapy for patients.
  • Integrate fundamentals of rehabilitation and sports medicine into an integrated care plan.
  • Manage and prevent injuries and pain associated with rehabilitation, performance and sports medicine.
  • Develop an appropriate rehabilitation program for a variety of disorders, including orthopedic, neurologic, medical, hospice, and palliative cases.
  • Develop an appropriate conditioning program in rehabilitation and sports medicine.
  • Formulate comprehensive clinical intervention plans that incorporate rehabilitation to help patients recover from illness and/or injury, and to help patients to live life to the fullest with minimal pain and discomfort.

Main Instructors

Janice Huntingford, DVM, DACVSMR, CCRT, CVA, CAVCA, CTCVMP
Dr. Janice Huntingford is a 1984 graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, in Guelph, Ontario and a Board Certified Specialist (Diplomate) in Canine Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine (DACVSMR).  She is certified in Animal Chiropractic by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA), in Animal Acupuncture by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, in Chinese herbal Medicine by Chi University (formerly Chi Institute) and is a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner.  In 2007, Dr. Huntingford opened Ontario’s first salt water canine therapy pool and canine rehabilitation center. Dr. Huntingford lectures nationally and internationally on rehabilitation, acupuncture, geriatric medicine, herbals and pain management to veterinarians and veterinary technicians. She has authored or co-authored several text book chapters on Rehabilitation and published a number of peer reviewed manuscripts. She consults and sits on a number of advisor boards related to herbal medicine, laser therapy and holistic medicine. She teaches regularly at Cornell University and is involved in Resident Training for Canine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation for Cornell University, College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Huntingford continues to research into the treatment of animal pain. She has published a peer review paper on laser therapy for elbow arthritis and has completed a clinical trial on a unique kidney preparation for aging cats.
Ronald Koh, DVM, MS, CCRP, CVA, CVCH, CVFT, CVMMP
Dr. Koh received his DVM degree in 2006 from National Chung Hsing University College of Veterinary Medicine in Taiwan. He completed a specialty internship in acupuncture in 2010 and received his Master’s degree in 2012 from University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. He gained certifications in acupuncture (CVA), Chinese herbal medicine (CVCH), and food therapy (CVFT) through the Chi Institute, Canine Rehabilitation (CCRP) through University of Tennessee, and Canine Medical Manipulation through Integrative Veterinary Medical Institute. He is currently working on his residency in Veterinary Sport Medicine and Rehabilitation. His clinical interests include TCVM and integrative medicine for pain management, neurological disorders, geriatric conditions, and palliative and hospice care. Dr. Koh is an assistant professor and the section chief of the Integrative Medicine Service at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. He has authored several articles on acupuncture, rehabilitation and integrative medicine for publications in the United States and internationally. He has been invited to offer lectures and trainings on canine rehabilitation, veterinary acupuncture,  traditional Chinese veterinary medicine, integrative medicine  for veterinary schools, conferences, and general public events in the United States and internationally. 

 

Certification

Students are eligible for the Certified Canine Rehabilitation Veterinarian (CCRV) certification, endorsed by Integrative Veterinary Medical Institute.The certification requirements are as follows:

  • Complete all 4 sessions of the program. 
  • Pass 3 online quizzes with scores above 75%. 
  • Pass Final Written Exam* with a score above 75%. 
  • Pass Final Practical Exam* with a score above 75%.
  • Submit two case studies (one orthopedic case and one neurological case) to be approved.
  • Approval of 30 internship hours
